The Arab Youth Media Creativity Summit 2025 adopted a UAE initiative urging social media users to block offenders instead of engaging in online abuse.

NEW ALAMEIN CITY: The Arab Youth Media Creativity Summit 2025 has officially adopted a UAE-led initiative designed to fight cyber abuse, a move hailed as a game-changer for safer online spaces across the Arab world.

The initiative, first launched by the UAE Journalists Association, encourages social media users to block abusers and avoid responding to online hostility, smear campaigns, or cyberbullying. By limiting engagement, the programme aims to stop the amplification of harmful content and reduce the influence of organised online abuse.

Introduced by Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed, Chairman of the National Media Office and the UAE Media Council, the campaign proved successful at the national level before expanding to the regional stage. Its adoption at the Arab Youth Summit marks a significant step in uniting Arab nations under a common digital safety framework.

At the summit in New Alamein City, Fadheela Al Muaini, President of the UAE Journalists Association, formally presented the initiative. Delegates and media representatives across the region welcomed the campaign, praising its focus on protecting youth and fostering positive online behaviour.

Summit organisers highlighted that this UAE-led initiative reflects a shared regional commitment to creating secure, respectful digital communities for Arab youth, who make up the majority of social media users. By adopting the programme, the Arab Youth Media Creativity Summit has sent a strong message: that cyberbullying and abuse will not be tolerated, and collective action is the way forward.
