The UAE has inaugurated a major desalinated water pipeline from Egypt to Gaza, serving over one million residents amid a severe water crisis.
KHAN YOUNIS: In a landmark humanitarian initiative, the United Arab Emirates has launched a large-scale water pipeline project that delivers desalinated water from Egypt into southern Gaza. The initiative, led by Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, was inaugurated by an Emirati delegation in coordination with local authorities and civil society leaders.
The UAE Gaza water project features a 7.5-kilometre pipeline with the capacity to transport 2 million gallons of clean water daily. It connects Egypt’s desalination infrastructure to the Al-Buraq reservoir in Khan Younis, which can store 5,000 cubic metres, providing access to safe drinking water for more than one million residents suffering from water scarcity due to ongoing conflict and infrastructure damage.
The UAE’s contribution builds on a series of sustained efforts in Gaza, including the establishment of six desalination plants, deployment of tankers, and restoration of vital wells. These efforts aim to ease the burden on displaced communities and improve daily living conditions across the territory.
Representatives from the Coastal Municipalities Water Utility, media, and local community groups witnessed the inaugural water pumping event. They toured the distribution points to observe how potable water is being delivered to hard-hit areas — reinforcing the impact and reach of this lifeline project.
The UAE Gaza water project underscores the Emirates’ enduring humanitarian commitment to Palestine and its leadership’s focus on providing sustainable aid solutions. It is one of the largest and most strategic water initiatives in the region, supporting emergency relief while laying the groundwork for long-term resilience.
