UAE’s ICP updates visa rules with new categories for AI experts, cruise staff, humanitarian cases, and business visitors.
ABU DHABI: The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) has rolled out major updates to the UAE’s entry visa regulations, introducing new visa types aimed at specialists and humanitarian cases. The amendments, announced on 29 September, 2025, reflect the UAE’s evolving priorities in tech, tourism, and social welfare.
Among the key additions are four visit visa categories tailored for professionals in artificial intelligence, entertainment, event management, cruise ships, and leisure boating. These new categories align with the country’s strategic focus on innovation and growing its global events and maritime tourism sectors.
A significant humanitarian visa has also been introduced, offering a one-year residence permit for individuals facing critical personal circumstances. This permit is renewable upon approval by the authority and follows strict eligibility criteria.
Widows and divorcees of foreign nationals residing in the UAE can now also apply for a one-year residence permit, renewable for an additional year under defined conditions, offering much-needed stability during life transitions.
The new rules also allow UAE residents to sponsor a friend or relative up to the third degree for a visit visa, provided they meet the required income threshold. This brings more flexibility for residents wishing to reunite with extended family members.
For entrepreneurs, the business exploration visa requires proof of financial capability, shareholding in a foreign company, or a demonstrated professional background. Truck drivers, meanwhile, must now meet health and financial requirements alongside sponsorship conditions.
ICP has also published detailed stay durations and extension guidelines for each visa type, enhancing clarity and transparency for applicants and sponsors.
These changes are part of the UAE’s ongoing efforts to support social inclusion, business innovation, and global talent attraction.
