Aster Volunteers flagged off two new mobile medical units in Dubai to serve remote communities in Rwanda and Uganda.

DUBAI: In a major expansion of its humanitarian outreach, Aster Volunteers mobile clinics were officially launched on 1st September 2025 at a special ceremony held at TAJ Hotel, Business Bay. These are the 64th and 65th mobile medical units initiated by Aster Volunteers, the CSR arm of Aster DM Healthcare, and are destined for underserved regions in Rwanda and Uganda.

The ceremony was led by Dr. Azad Moopen, Founder Chairman of Aster DM Healthcare, and Dr. Aflodis Kagaba, Executive Director of Health Development Initiative-Rwanda (HDI). A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between Aster DM Healthcare and HDI, marking a strategic partnership to strengthen healthcare accessibility in East Africa.

The new Aster Volunteers mobile clinics are fully equipped with consultation areas, telehealth capability, mini laboratories, dispensing counters, health education facilities, and infection control systems. These clinics on wheels aim to deliver essential primary healthcare services free of cost to people living in remote and marginalised communities.

Dr. Moopen said, “These units are not just vehicles; they are lifelines for people in areas where healthcare remains a daily challenge. Our vision is to bring quality, compassionate care to every doorstep.”

Echoing his views, Dr. Kagaba remarked, “Our partnership with Aster is a big step toward health equity. These mobile clinics will reach deep into rural regions, ensuring no one is left behind.”

Founded in 2005, HDI has consistently worked towards providing healthcare and development opportunities to vulnerable communities. Aster Volunteers, through its Mobile Medical Services initiative, has served over 2.4 million people since inception. The initiative has impacted 6.9 million lives globally across 19 countries with the help of more than 85,000 volunteers.

The Aster Volunteers mobile clinics are part of a growing global movement aimed at creating inclusive healthcare models through innovation, outreach, and partnership.
