Abuja, Nigeria: Noor Dubai Foundation concluded its transformative eye camp in Abuja, Nigeria, from 12 to 17 October, restoring sight and hope to thousands. This initiative, supported by DP World Foundation, diagnosed and treated 1,742 patients with visual impairments, conducted 207 life-changing surgeries, issued 223 medical prescriptions, and distributed 330 eyeglasses.
This was Noor Dubai’s second camp in Nigeria, aiming to combat blindness and improve access to quality eye care through free examinations and surgical interventions.
Dr Manal Omran Taryam, CEO of Noor Dubai Foundation, highlighted Nigeria’s alarming statistics: 24 million people suffer from visual impairments, including 1.3 million with blindness. Women make up 54% of those affected, according to the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness.
Dr Taryam praised the success of the camp and detailed the foundation’s work in Katsina State over four years. Key achievements include upgrading three hospitals into specialised eye care centres, rehabilitating 250 primary healthcare facilities, and performing 12,000 surgeries. Additionally, school health services were improved, benefiting students and teachers through enhanced eye care.
Latifa Al Qemzi, Director General of DP World Foundation, expressed pride in the partnership, emphasising the foundation’s commitment to creating sustainable social impact. She stated, “This collaboration with Noor Dubai demonstrates our dedication to addressing critical health needs and empowering communities.”
