DUBAI: Dubai is taking a big step towards a greener future! The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has just issued the first two licenses for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations to Tesla and UAEV. This move is part of DEWA’s shiny new Regulatory and Licensing Framework, aimed at ramping up EV infrastructure across the city.

This framework is a game changer, designed to tackle both current and future needs while pushing Dubai closer to its ambitious goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. It’s all about ensuring there are enough charging stations to meet the rising demand for EVs while keeping things safe and user-friendly for everyone.

The licenses were handed out during a special event at GITEX Global 2024, marking a significant milestone for the EV market in Dubai. DEWA expressed its commitment to supporting the switch to electric vehicles, having launched the region’s first public EV charging stations back in 2014. This new framework encourages collaboration between public and private sectors, ensuring Dubai’s infrastructure meets the highest global standards.

The growth of the EV market in the UAE is exciting, with plans to have electric and hybrid vehicles make up 50% of all cars on the roads by 2050. This initiative aims to decarbonize transport and make EVs more attractive to consumers.

It’s an exciting time for green mobility in Dubai!
