AJMAN: The Ajman Business Women Council (AJBWC) has achieved a significant milestone by completing its second cooled plastic greenhouse under the “Plant and Reap” initiative. This project, spearheaded by Dr. Amna Khalifa Al Ali, Chairwoman of AJBWC, encourages women to engage in sustainable home gardening, supporting both agricultural development and food security in the UAE.
Dr. Khalifa emphasised the AJBWC’s commitment to empowering women through agricultural entrepreneurship, aligning with the UAE’s vision for sustainability and innovation in farming. The initiative focuses on boosting local agricultural production, conserving resources, and overcoming challenges in the sector using advanced technologies like hydroponics.
In collaboration with Alshamsi Farms, AJBWC provides members with seedlings, seeds, and expert guidance on cultivating crops effectively. The goal is to enhance crop productivity and quality while enabling participants to transform their home-based efforts into profitable ventures. Through the “Rufuf” marketing platform, excess produce can be sold, further supporting the local economy.
The cooled greenhouse model uses hydroponic techniques to grow leafy greens and fruiting plants year-round, ensuring high-quality output and household self-sufficiency. The initiative also fosters environmental conservation by reducing water consumption and promoting sustainable farming practices.
Halima Al Hammadi, founder of the Cooled Greenhouse project, lauded AJBWC for empowering women to succeed in modern agriculture. Dr. Obaid Ali Alshamsi, Chairman of Al Shamsi Agricultural Projects Management Consulting, highlighted the importance of sustainable hydroponic systems in advancing local food security.
Dr. Khalifa encouraged housewives and businesswomen to seize this opportunity, underscoring the vital role of agricultural entrepreneurship in diversifying the economy and enhancing sustainability.
This initiative exemplifies AJBWC’s dedication to fostering innovation, empowering Emirati women, and contributing to a greener, more resilient UAE.
