Dubai has a bold plan called the Demand Side Management Strategy 2050, aiming to make the city a global leader in energy efficiency. The goal is to double efficiency improvements and achieve at least 30% savings by 2030 and 50% savings by 2050 in electricity and water use, as well as significant cuts in transport fuel consumption.

The plan follows the vision and guidance of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum who is the Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, has issued a directive to update the Dubai Demand Side Management Strategy 2050 (DSM Strategy 2050).

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, shared that the strategy focuses on seven key areas: Policies and Regulations, Data and Measurement & Verification (M&V), Government Support and Leadership, Awareness and Recognition, Financing, Research and Development (R&D) and Innovation, and Freezone Alignment and Collaboration.

The strategy aims to contribute significantly towards electricity and water savings. By 2050, Dubai hopes to save at least 86.8 Terawatt Hours (TWh) of electricity and 383.2 Billion Imperial Gallons (BIG) of water compared to what would be used if no changes were made. Additionally, they aim to save at least 1,757 million litres of transport fuel by 2050 compared to 2013 levels.

Ahmed Buti Al Mehairbi, Secretary General of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, highlighted these ambitious targets. The idea is to set a new standard for energy efficiency and sustainability, positioning Dubai as a pioneer in the global arena.

In essence, this strategy is about smart policies, strong government support, and innovative solutions, all working together to make Dubai a greener, more efficient city. By 2050, the city aims to achieve impressive savings in electricity, water, and fuel, making it a model for other cities worldwide.
