COPENHAGEN: Extreme heat is claiming over 175,000 lives each year in Europe. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has highlighted that temperatures in Europe are rising faster than anywhere else in the world.
Dr. Hans Henri P. Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe, shared some alarming facts. “Europe is warming up quicker than other regions,” he said. “Temperatures here are increasing at about twice the global average rate. This rapid rise in temperature is having a deadly impact. The three hottest years on record for Europe have all happened since 2020, and the ten hottest years have been since 2007.”
This rising heat is a serious problem. It’s not just making people uncomfortable; it’s taking lives. The figures show how urgent it is to address this issue.
Dr. Kluge’s statement is a wake-up call for Europe and the rest of the world. The rapid increase in temperature and the resulting deaths highlight the need for immediate action to tackle climate change.
