Dubai: The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has stopped 153 employers from hiring domestic workers because their registered workers were caught working for others. This happened during campaigns by MoHRE and other authorities to check on workers who don’t follow the rules.

Employers who break the rules might face penalties like not getting new permits, and they could be sent to court, where they might have to pay a fine of up to AED50,000.

These actions follow the law called Federal Decree-Law No. 9 of 2022 Concerning Domestic Workers, which says it’s not allowed for domestic workers to work without permits or for others without following the rules. The same goes for companies that hire such workers.

MoHRE warned employers not to hire illegal domestic workers or those who work for others without following the rules. They emphasized that this breaks the law and can be risky for the health and safety of employers and their families. MoHRE is serious about enforcing these rules and encourages employers to only use licensed agencies for hiring domestic workers, listed on their official website and social media pages.

“The UAE continues to establish a legislative framework that safeguards domestic helpers, in line with its mission to establish the country’s pioneering status as a preferred global destination to live and work,” the ministry stressed in an earlier statement.

“The ministry is keen on building on the UAE’s achievements in supporting domestic helpers by committing to its role in overseeing the enforcing laws, decisions, and legislation that would regulate recruitment and employment of domestic helpers in line with international best practices during the contractual period.”
