DUBAI: The Digital School, part of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives Foundation, recently celebrated its partners from various government entities and private organisations for their crucial role in the “Donate Your Own Device” initiative. Launched in collaboration with the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) under the theme “Donate to Educate,” the campaign has impressively collected over 50,000 electronic devices, coinciding with World E-Waste Day on October 14 and the UAE’s Year of Sustainability.

Prominent figures, including Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, attended the event, recognising key contributors like the Ministry of Health, Dubai Police, and Emirates NBD. Dubai Police notably received The Digital School Sustainability Badge Flag for being the largest contributor to the initiative.

The campaign has achieved significant milestones, collecting devices weighing around 120 tonnes. Reusable items were refurbished, while non-reusable ones were recycled. Al Olama emphasised that empowering underprivileged students with modern learning solutions is a central aim of The Digital School, which aligns with the UAE leadership’s vision for sustainability and accessible education.

Dr. Hamdan Al Mazrouei praised the initiative’s transformative impact on online education, noting its reach to students in 14 countries. The campaign also highlights environmental benefits by repurposing electronic devices, supporting the UAE’s sustainability goals while preventing 120 tonnes of e-waste.

By providing digital learning tools to thousands of students, the campaign aims to bridge the digital divide in education. It supports a circular economy, turning electronic waste into valuable resources rather than discarding them.

As the campaign evolves into a permanent initiative, donations of used devices and financial contributions will continue to support underprivileged students, enhancing their educational opportunities globally. The Digital School remains committed to expanding its reach and impact in the coming years, championing both educational and environmental goals.
