DUBAI: Getting married just got a whole lot sweeter for Emirati government employees in Dubai! A brand-new decree grants them a fully paid 10-day marriage leave—because the honeymoon phase deserves more than just a weekend.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has issued Decree No. (31) of 2025, officially giving Emirati staff working in Dubai’s government, free zones and special development zones something big to smile about. The decree also extends to Emirati judges and military personnel—though cadets are excluded.
But before you run to book that Maldives trip, there are a few conditions. Your spouse must also be an Emirati citizen, your probation period needs to be complete, and your marriage contract must be registered and dated after December 31, 2024. Fair enough, right?
Employees will receive their full gross salary, including all allowances and financial perks, during the 10-day leave. Even better—this isn’t just a one-shot deal. You can take your leave all at once or split it up across the year after your marriage date. And if something unexpected comes up, your manager can approve rolling over your unused marriage leave into the next year.
Just one tiny catch for military folks—your department can call you back if duty calls. But don’t worry, you’ll get to enjoy the rest of your leave after your recall ends.
So whether it’s a beach escape or just time to unwind and settle into married life, the new Dubai marriage leave policy is turning heads and setting new standards for work–life balance.
