DUBAI: Dubai Police traffic patrols, working closely with the Command and Control Center, recently came to the rescue of a driver facing a sudden malfunction with their vehicle’s cruise control. The driver urgently dialed the emergency number (999), seeking immediate assistance as they struggled to regain control.
Thanks to the rapid response and efficient coordination, Dubai’s vigilant security presence enabled traffic patrols to swiftly locate the vehicle on Sheikh Zayed Road heading towards Abu Dhabi. Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Deputy Director of the General Department of Traffic, explained that upon receiving the alert, patrols were dispatched immediately to intercept the vehicle beyond the Expo Bridge.
Brig. Jumaa bin Suwaidan highlighted the critical nature of the situation, where the malfunction posed a significant risk on the fast-paced highway. Traffic patrols secured the area, activated warning signs, and approached the distressed driver, providing reassurance and expert handling. One patrol positioned ahead of the vehicle to safely slow it down, while others secured the lane to prevent any potential accidents.
Emphasising safety measures, Brig. Jumaa bin Suwaidan advised drivers encountering such emergencies to stay calm, fasten seatbelts, activate hazard lights, and contact 999 promptly. Drivers were also advised to shift to neutral, turn off the engine, and restart it, or apply steady brake pressure until stopping safely. If necessary, they should release the handbrake while maintaining control of the steering wheel.
