DUBAI: In 2024, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) completed eight traffic improvement projects in educational zones, benefiting 37 schools. This is part of RTA’s strategy to improve road efficiency, especially in school areas, as the city continues to grow.

The schools involved include Kings’ School Dubai, The International School of Choueifat, Dubai College, Al Safa Schools Complex, School of Research Science, and schools in Al Qusais, Al Mizhar, Nad Al Sheba, and Al Tawar.

Key upgrades included widening roads, adding parking spaces, improving entrances and exits, and creating safe areas for student pick-ups and drop-offs. Pavements were also paved, and traffic diversions were implemented in nearby areas.

Hussain Al Banna, CEO of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, said these improvements enhance road networks and support Dubai’s infrastructure growth. RTA is committed to improving traffic flow, increasing road capacity, and ensuring safety. The agency works closely with Dubai Police, real estate developers, and school authorities to find traffic solutions, with regular assessments to ensure their effectiveness.

These changes have reduced school arrival times by 15-20%, showing RTA’s dedication to easing traffic and supporting the city’s growth. In early 2025, RTA will extend these improvements to 13 more schools in areas like Al Garhoud, Al Barsha, and Al Warqa. A new traffic plan will also be introduced to reduce congestion and improve travel times for schoolgoers.
