ABU DHABI: The Abu Dhabi Government is making a notable presence at GITEX Global 2024 with a premier hackathon and innovative AI projects aimed at positioning the emirate as a global leader in AI-driven governance.

Under the theme “Towards an AI-native Government,” more than 30 Abu Dhabi government entities and partners showcased their initiatives at the Abu Dhabi Pavilion.

The first day of GITEX featured several key highlights, including the launch of a four-day cyber hackathon and two significant AI projects: “GovGPT” by the Department of Government Enablement (DGE) and “Bayaan – The Unified Decision-Making Platform” by the Statistics Centre – Abu Dhabi (SCAD). Additionally, the Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT) introduced “AI ALC Audiobooks.”

The “DGE Elite Hackathon” aims to identify the UAE’s top cyber talent by inviting university students with expertise in various security fields, including defence-security and threat intelligence. Participants will engage in a competitive environment, defending their systems while attempting to breach their opponents’ setups, all while facing advanced live cyber threats. This four-day experience concludes with a showcase on Friday, moving beyond traditional “Capture the Flag” exercises by emphasising innovation, collaboration, and strategic thinking.

GovGPT, introduced by DGE, is an AI-driven knowledge agent designed to support Abu Dhabi government employees by simplifying access to resources and information. It features self-service capabilities and a growing library of AI tools, including a PowerPoint Builder and Tone-of-Voice checker, enhancing operational efficiency.

SCAD’s Bayaan platform serves as a central repository for diverse datasets, enabling informed decision-making through advanced data collection, analysis, and visualisation. It incorporates predictive analytics and machine learning to promote proactive responses and foster collaboration among government entities.

Additionally, DCT’s AI ALC Audiobooks project showcases ten titles from the “Emirates Documentation” series, utilising AI technology to enhance the audiobook experience by analysing contextual pronunciation and sentence structure.
