DUBAI: Emirates has reinforced its support for rugby by becoming the Title Sponsor of Asia Rugby. This multi-year partnership will help the airline back rugby tournaments across Asia, including both 7s and 15s formats, as well as the Asia Rugby Championships, involving 36 countries.
Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline, highlighted the airline’s long-standing connection with rugby, starting from their early days. Over the years, Emirates has supported global rugby events, such as the Rugby World Cup, Dubai 7s, and the UAE Rugby Federation. Clark expressed pride in expanding support to Asia Rugby, aiming to introduce the sport to new markets and offer young athletes opportunities to hone their skills. He emphasized Emirates’ focus on grassroots sports to build strong community ties.
Qais Al-Dhalai, President of Asia Rugby, welcomed Emirates as the Title Sponsor, calling it a significant step in growing rugby across Asia’s 36 member countries. He believes this partnership will boost rugby’s popularity among a new generation of athletes and fans, and he sees the UAE as a strategic base for the sport’s growth in the region.
As part of the deal, Emirates will sponsor key events, including the Asia Rugby Men’s and Women’s Championships, and age-grade competitions. These events serve as gateways to prestigious competitions like the Rugby World Cup and the Olympic Games.
