Bangkok: At the behest of the Qatar Football Association, Qatar has been designated as the host country for the FIFA Arab Cup in 2025, 2029, and 2033. This competition will operate under the framework of an invitational event and will not be included in the International Match Calendar.

The decision was made during the FIFA Council’s meeting held before the 74th FIFA Congress in Bangkok, Thailand, where various significant resolutions were adopted, particularly regarding the future of women’s football. The international match calendar received unanimous approval in this context.

Moreover, building on the FIFA Council’s prior decision in December 2022 to endorse the strategic concept of introducing a FIFA Women’s Club World Cup™, discussions with the confederations and other stakeholders resulted in the proposal for the inaugural tournament featuring 16 teams, scheduled for January-February 2026. This competition will occur once every four years, with more specific details to follow in the future.

In addition to this, recognizing the importance of fostering the growth of women’s clubs worldwide and addressing the confederations’ requests for more regular playing opportunities, there is a proposal to establish an additional FIFA women’s club competition starting from 2027, to be held in years without the FIFA Women’s Club World Cup.
