At the 2024 Paris Olympics, winners will get more than just a medal. When they stand on the podium to celebrate their achievements, they are also receiving a special gold box alongside their medals.

So, what’s in this gold box?
The box, which is about 40 centimetres wide, holds the official poster for this year’s Games.

What about the poster?
This beautiful poster was designed by French artist Ugo Gattoni. He spent nearly 2,000 hours over four months working on it. The poster is vibrant and colourful, capturing the spirit of the Olympics in Paris. It features famous symbols like the Eiffel Tower and the Stade de France, which is the main Olympic venue.

What about the mascot?
Along with the medals, each athlete will also receive a special mascot. The mascot for the 2024 Games is called the Olympic Phryge. It’s inspired by the traditional Phrygian red cap, which has been a symbol of freedom in France for many years. The Phryge mascot comes with a small medal emblem on its belly and the word “Bravo” written in French on its back. This makes each mascot a unique and memorable keepsake for the athletes.

Whats special about the medals?
The medals themselves are particularly noteworthy. Designed by the renowned French jewellery house Chaumet, these medals have a unique feature. They contain fragments of iron taken from the Eiffel Tower, which were preserved during the tower’s renovations in the 20th century. The medals are shaped like hexagons, a nod to France’s nickname, “l’hexagone,” which means “the hexagon.” The outer edges of the medals are crafted to catch and reflect light, creating a dazzling effect with 3D rays.
