Ahmed Raza calls DP World ILT20 Development Tournament a vital stage for UAE cricketers ahead of the 2025 player auction.
DUBAI: Dubai Capitals coach Ahmed Raza has praised the DP World ILT20 Development Tournament as a transformative platform that is shaping the future of UAE cricket. The tournament, which precedes the first-ever ILT20 player auction, brings together 90 players and staff and is seen as a key stepping stone for local cricketers to showcase their skills on a global stage.
“This is a platform where superstars are made and where ordinary players achieve extraordinary things,” Raza said, underlining how the tournament has become a highlight of the domestic calendar. He noted that standout talents such as Jawadullah and Haider Ali first proved themselves here before progressing to both the ILT20 league and the UAE national team.
Raza credited the DP World ILT20 ecosystem with elevating UAE cricket internationally. Recent milestones include victories against Afghanistan, a first-ever win over New Zealand, and a historic series triumph against Bangladesh in Asia earlier this year. “Sharing dressing rooms with global players like David Warner, Sam Billings, and Fakhar Zaman helps our local cricketers grow enormously within just one season,” Raza added.
The coach also spotlighted emerging names such as Siyam Khan, Israr Ahmed, and Mohammed Irfan, whom he believes could be the next stars of UAE cricket. He reaffirmed the Dubai Capitals’ commitment to nurturing homegrown talent, highlighting how UAE players have consistently played decisive roles in the team’s performances, including last season’s title-winning final.
“The Development Tournament has been a game-changer for us. It not only strengthens the league but also boosts the national side with confident, match-ready cricketers,” Raza said.
The 2025 edition comes at a crucial moment, with the UAE team preparing for a tri-series and its long-awaited return to the Asia Cup after nearly a decade. With great crowds last season and rising global viewership, the tournament is expected to attract even more attention this year.
Dubai Capitals, the reigning champions of both the Development Tournament and the main DP World ILT20 league, will begin their title defence amid heightened anticipation and excitement.
