DUBAI: The Indian Roll Ball League, a unique sport combining skating, basketball, and handball, officially made its international debut in Dubai on 7 September. Hosted at the prestigious India Club, the global launch brought together legendary cricketers, fans, and sports dignitaries in a celebration of athletic innovation and cross-border camaraderie.
Ronald Butcher, the first Black cricketer to represent England and a former BBC commentator, attended as the Chief Guest. Indian cricketing icon and 1983 World Cup winner Madan Lal was the Special Guest, adding nostalgic charm to the evening. Local UAE cricket stars also turned up in support, reinforcing Dubai’s role as a rising global sports hub.

“India has always contributed to the world of sports,” said Madan Lal. “Roll Ball is one such exciting creation, offering thrill, fitness, and potential for global success.” Ronald Butcher echoed similar sentiments, praising the Indian Roll Ball League as an “energetic, entertaining and globally relevant sport.”
The league’s founder, Sachin Joshi, passionately addressed the gathering, stating, “This league will shake up the sporting world. Roll Ball is the world’s second fastest sport, and we’re bringing unmatched energy to the global stage.”
Adding a touch of fandom, Sudhir Kumar Gautam—known as Sachin Tendulkar’s biggest supporter—was honoured during the ceremony, drawing loud cheers from the audience.
Founded in Pune in 2003, the Indian Roll Ball League is now played in over 50 countries and is officially backed by the School Games Federation of India and India’s Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The Dubai launch marked a milestone in giving this Indian-origin sport a truly international platform, strengthening sporting ties between India and the UAE.
