Golf icon Rory McIlroy returns to headline the 2026 Hero Dubai Desert Classic in Dubai, chasing a historic fifth title.
DUBAI: Golf fans across the UAE and beyond are in for a thrilling start to the year as Rory McIlroy to headline 2026 Hero Dubai Desert Classic at Emirates Golf Club. Set for 22–25 January 2026, the tournament will mark McIlroy’s 20th anniversary since first appearing at the event as an amateur in 2006.
Fresh off a career Grand Slam victory at Augusta National, the World Number Two and five-time Major winner will return to his “second home” to compete for a record fifth Dallah Trophy. The Hero Dubai Desert Classic, widely known as the ‘Major of the Middle East’, promises an action-packed tournament both on and off the course.
McIlroy, a fan favourite in the UAE, claimed his first professional title at this very tournament in 2009 and has since secured victories in 2015, 2023, and 2024. His comeback win in 2024 cemented his bond with Dubai’s golfing faithful. “The support in Dubai is always incredible,” said McIlroy. “It’s the perfect place to start the year.”
Away from the fairways, the Hero Dubai Desert Classic will continue to deliver its signature festival atmosphere at Tournament Town—featuring family activities, live entertainment, food trucks, wellness experiences, and kids’ zones.
Early bird tickets are now on sale, with general admission free on Thursday and Friday, and weekend access starting from just AED 75. Children under 17 enter free across all four days. Hospitality offerings such as the Dallah Lounge and The Social on Sixteen return with enhanced amenities, exclusive views, and curated dining experiences.
Sustainability remains central to the event, with green transport encouraged and mental wellness supported through the returning Mental Fitness Zone. As a GEO-certified event, the Hero Dubai Desert Classic leads in sustainable golf event practices on the DP World Tour.
Simon Corkill, Executive Tournament Director, called McIlroy’s return “the perfect way to launch our 2026 event,” affirming the tournament’s growing status as a sporting and social mainstay in the UAE.
