UAE National Team adds three medals at Jiu-Jitsu World Championship in Thailand, marking success on Flag Day.
BANGKOK: The UAE Jiu-Jitsu National Team continued its winning streak at the Jiu-Jitsu World Championship in Thailand, claiming three additional medals on Monday—two gold and one bronze—coinciding with the nation’s proud celebration of Flag Day.
Omar Al Suwaidi led the charge, clinching gold in the men’s -56kg category after a flawless series of four matches. Shamma Al Kalbani also triumphed with a gold medal in the women’s -63kg division, showcasing a remarkable return from injury. Meanwhile, Theyab Al Nuaimi secured a bronze medal in the same men’s -56kg weight class, rounding off a successful day for the UAE delegation.
With these wins, the UAE has now collected six medals at the event—three gold, one silver, and two bronze—reinforcing its growing reputation as a powerhouse in international jiu-jitsu. The championship runs through 15th November in Bangkok.
Abdulmunem Alhashmi, Chairman of the UAE and Asian Jiu-Jitsu Federations and Senior Vice-President of the Jiu-Jitsu International Federation, praised the athletes for their performance, calling the medals “a priceless gift to the nation on this special day.”
Fahad Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the UAE and Asian Jiu-Jitsu Federations, said the results reflected two months of intensive preparation. “This success, coming on Flag Day, reflects the spirit of unity and excellence that defines our nation,” he said.
World champion Faisal Al Ketbi, Head of National Teams, highlighted how these achievements validate the UAE’s jiu-jitsu development strategy, noting the continued support of the country’s leadership as a driving force behind the athletes’ motivation.
Omar Al Suwaidi said, “I faced four tough matches against world-class opponents, but strong preparation and focus helped me succeed.” Shamma Al Kalbani expressed pride in returning from injury to win, dedicating her gold to the UAE’s leadership and supporters.
