Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed visited Christie’s Dubai to honour its 20-year legacy of enriching Dubai’s cultural and creative landscape.
DUBAI: Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, visited Christie’s Dubai at DIFC to mark the 20th anniversary of the auction house’s presence in the UAE. The visit honoured Christie’s pivotal role in Dubai’s journey to becoming a regional hub for art, creativity, and cultural exchange.
During her tour, Sheikha Latifa explored the special exhibition “The Collection of Robert F. and Patricia G. Ross Weis”, which is being showcased in Dubai prior to its international auction. The exhibit reflects Dubai’s rising stature as a platform where global art meets regional collectors.
“Celebrating Christie’s 20 years in Dubai is also a tribute to the city’s journey in establishing itself as a hub for creativity and cultural dialogue,” said Her Highness. She reaffirmed the emirate’s vision to serve as a cultural bridge between the region and the world, empowering artists and institutions alike.
Christie’s was the first international auction house to set up in the Middle East, establishing its Dubai office in 2005 and holding its first regional auction in 2006. Since then, the brand has set 53 world auction records and cultivated a thriving community of collectors.
Anthea Peers, President of Christie’s EMEA, reflected on two decades of partnership, praising Dubai’s dynamic growth and evolving cultural scene. DIFC CEO Arif Amiri added that Christie’s has been integral in cementing the district’s position as a global art hub.
The 20th anniversary marks not only a celebration of Christie’s success, but also Dubai’s transformation into a beacon of artistic excellence.
