NEW DELHI: With a view to synthesise India’s 10,000-year-old maritime history with the present-day demands on maritime conservation and preservation of global littoral heritage, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways in India will organise a Maritime Heritage Conclave in December.
The Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, said global experts, researchers and practitioners worldwide of maritime heritage will be invited to this comprehensive milestone event.
Everything from coastal sports and unique clothing worn by coastal people to seaside traditions and cuisine will be showcased at this event. The influence of language, literature, art, and architecture on maritime cultures will also be the focus of this conclave.
Countries in India’s near and distant neighborhoods with coastal communities will be invited to share their legacies at this gathering.
“India’s maritime history is not just a legacy of the past. It is a guiding light for the future. Through this conclave, we aim to celebrate our rich heritage while positioning India as a global contributor and practitioner in maritime conservation,” Sonowal said.
