Shurooq announces Kalba Rock Art Centre and confirms completion timelines for Kalba Beach and Nomad, boosting cultural and eco-tourism.

SHARJAH: The Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) has unveiled the Kalba Rock Art Centre, a landmark cultural project that celebrates the UAE’s rich archaeological heritage. The announcement, made under the directives of H.H. Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi and with the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, highlights Kalba’s growing role as a hub for cultural and eco-tourism.

Located near Al Hefaiyah Park and Kalba Waterfront, the centre spans 3,574 sqm on a rocky hill overlooking the coast. It will showcase more than 400 ancient engravings across 150 rock outcrops, including depictions of animals, copper smelting scenes, stone houses, and graves dating from the Neolithic to the 19th century. Construction is scheduled for completion in Q3 2026.

Shurooq is working closely with the Sharjah Archaeology Authority and global institutions, including the Global Digital Heritage initiative, to digitally document and preserve the engravings. The centre will feature interactive exhibits, educational displays, and visitor amenities such as a café and gift shop.

In addition, Shurooq shared progress on other key projects. Kalba Beach, a 700-metre development featuring restaurants, cafés, kiosks, and facilities designed for inclusivity, is expected to open in Q4 2026. Built to Blue Flag standards, the beach incorporates eco-friendly materials and supports local entrepreneurs.

Meanwhile, Nomad, an eco-luxury project with 20 hybrid-energy trailers, hiking and biking trails, and wellness activities, is set to be completed in Q4 this year. Designed to reflect Kalba’s natural identity, it offers unique experiences such as birdwatching, yoga, and stargazing.

Together, these projects are part of Shurooq’s long-term strategy to diversify Sharjah’s economy, create new jobs, and establish Kalba as a leading tourism destination that balances heritage preservation with modern development.
