Payal Kapadia’s film “All we imagine as light”, starring Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Chhaya Kadam, and Hridhu Haroon, secured the Grand Prix at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.

This prestigious award marks a historic achievement for Indian cinema, second only to the Palme d’Or.

Directed by Kapadia, the movie premiered on May 23 in the festival’s esteemed competition category, making it the first Indian film in three decades to be featured in this main section.

“All we imagine as light” portrays the captivating narrative of Malayali nurses in Mumbai, skillfully enacted by its talented cast.

The last Indian film to make it to the competition section was Shaji N Karun’s Swaham in 1994.

In an interview with agencies regarding “All We Imagine As Light”, Kani Kusruti said, “When I get to know that our film was selected to compete for the prestigious Palme d’Or award at Cannes, it wasn’t a moment of euphoric happiness. Instead, the news slowly sunk in, and we all genuinely felt very happy about it. The way we all worked together and the catharsis we felt when the film was finally complete was immensely fulfilling. Personally,I was excited at the prospect of watching the film and seeing how it turned out.”
