New Delhi: Singapore Airlines, clinched the title of the world’s best airline last year, announced it will offer its employees a bonus worth nearly eight months of salary. On Wednesday, the company disclosed a record annual net profit of $1.98 billion for the fiscal year 2023 to 2024.
“The demand for air travel remained buoyant” throughout the year, bolstered by a resurgence in North Asia as China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Taiwan fully reopened their borders post-pandemic, the airline stated in its earnings report.
Goh Choon Phong, the airline’s CEO, attributed the victory to the relentless efforts of his team, who made “many sacrifices to ensure that SIA was ready for the recovery in air travel. This has allowed us to emerge stronger and fitter from the pandemic.”
However, the upcoming year could pose challenges for the sector, Singapore Airlines noted in its earnings report.
“Geopolitical tensions, macroeconomic uncertainties, inflationary pressures, and supply chain constraints pose challenges for the aviation industry,” it said.
