Meet the Shine Turbine that can easily fit in a backpack and is about the same size as a water bottle. It was created by the Canadian start-up Aurea Technologies and can generate power in soft breezes from 13kph up to stronger winds of 45 kph.

It weighs just 1.3 kilograms, inside it, there is a collapsible mounting system, and a battery big enough to charge your phone 4 times. Its body is made from polycarbonate plastic.

Setting up requires that the mount be pushed into the soft ground anchored with guy wires, after this its three 60cm-long blades have to be unfolded.
It automatically turns to face the wind, and it either charges a plugged-in device or its internal battery.

As wind speeds double, power output increases eight times.

The turbine is suitable for camping trips and works in various weather conditions. This is due to wind’s “cubic relationship with power”, the company has said.

Its high-efficiency blades and lightweight design allow it to produce the most amount of energy for the least amount of weight compared to any other portable renewable charger.

Aurea Technologies says the Shine Turbine works in a wide range of conditions including wind speeds from 13 to 45 kilometres per hour and temperatures from zero to 40 degrees Celsius. It can either charge devices directly or store the electricity in its internal battery, which can hold about four total phone charges.
