DUBAI: In a move to support delivery bike riders during the summer heat, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched 15 air-conditioned temporary rest areas across major bus and metro stations in the emirate. The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to enhance rider wellbeing, road safety, and compliance with the midday work ban, which is active daily from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM until 15 September.
These new rest spots add to the 40 permanent shelters previously installed across Dubai, bringing comfort to a growing number of delivery personnel during the harsh midday hours. Each rest area is equipped with water dispensers, mobile charging stations, and nearby motorbike parking, while the exterior design ensures insulation and shade without affecting visibility. Multilingual signage and clear guidance promote a seamless and safe user experience.
As part of a humanitarian partnership, the UAE Food Bank, in collaboration with Deliveroo, will provide 7,500 ready-made hot meals at these shelters. The initiative aims to acknowledge the hard work of delivery riders and reduce food waste by redistributing surplus meals in a responsible, sustainable manner.
Key locations include bus stations at Gold Souq, Al Satwa, Al Jafiliya, and Oud Metha, and metro station exits at e& (Exit 1), Al Qusais (Exits 1 & 2), Emirates Towers (Exit 1), Business Bay (Exit 2), Centrepoint (Exit 1), DMCC (Exit 2), and BurJuman (Exit 4), among others.
This programme underscores RTA’s integrated strategy to support the delivery sector, which has seen rapid growth due to soaring demand. From setting clear regulatory standards to improving infrastructure, the authority is taking steps to raise public awareness of riders’ essential role while creating a safer, more efficient delivery ecosystem.
