ABU DHABI: Etihad Water and Electricity (EtihadWE) has announced the successful installation of 100 percent of smart meters for all its customers, with around 40 percent currently integrated into the company’s smart systems.
Yousif Ahmed Al Ali, CEO of EtihadWE, stated that the company is working on connecting the remaining meters to its smart systems, aiming to enhance service quality and efficiency. Initially, the goal was to complete this integration by 2026, but EtihadWE now plans to achieve full integration by the end of 2025.
During GITEX Global 2024, Al Ali explained that the smart meters, which cover both electricity and water, are part of the company’s efforts to offer advanced services to its customers. He highlighted the growing importance of digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) in EtihadWE’s daily operations, with smart meters being a significant step forward.
The current 40 percent integration rate already allows customers to monitor their consumption more effectively and receive alerts for potential faults or leaks, helping to reduce possible damages and losses.

Al Ali also mentioned a key highlight for this year: a strategic partnership with Khazna to develop one of the largest data centres in the Middle East, located in the Emirate of Ajman. This centre will focus heavily on AI applications, and EtihadWE will be the primary electricity provider for the facility.
This initiative is expected to play a crucial role in supporting EtihadWE’s mission to modernise its services and infrastructure, benefiting customers and advancing technological progress in the UAE.
