NEW DELHI: India will mark the official launch of the United Nations International Year of Cooperatives on November 25, 2025, in New Delhi. The announcement from the Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that the event will coincide with the Global Cooperative Conference organised by the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA).

The conference is themed “Cooperatives Build Prosperity for All.” It aims to highlight the vital role of cooperatives in global economic growth and sustainable development. Leaders, policymakers, and cooperative members worldwide will gather to discuss critical issues and share strategies for progress.

A core focus of the conference will be on addressing challenges and exploring opportunities for cooperatives to align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Key discussions will revolve around poverty alleviation, gender equality, and sustainable economic growth, areas where cooperatives have historically played a transformative role.

Panel sessions, workshops, and expert-led discussions will provide actionable insights and inspire innovation within the cooperative movement. With cooperatives recognised for their potential to balance social and economic priorities, the event seeks to amplify their contribution to global prosperity.

The UN’s designation of 2025 as the International Year of Cooperatives underscores the importance of collective efforts in building resilient and equitable societies. This New Delhi-based launch positions India as a leader in championing cooperative growth and fostering international collaboration.

The conference is set to be a landmark occasion, uniting cooperative networks to create a roadmap for a sustainable and inclusive future.
