The UAE backed the Gulf Railway project at the GCC Railway Authority Council meeting in Riyadh, strengthening regional transport links.
RIYADH: The UAE reaffirmed its strong commitment to regional infrastructure development by participating in the eighth GCC Railway Authority Council meeting, held at the Gulf Cooperation Council General Secretariat in Riyadh. The meeting gathered key delegates to review progress on the ambitious Gulf Railway project.
Representing the UAE, Sheikh Nasser Al Qasimi, Assistant Undersecretary for the Infrastructure and Transport Regulatory Sector at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, emphasised the strategic importance of the project. He stated that the Gulf Railway initiative not only enhances economic integration but also deepens social connections and supports sustainable development goals across the region.
Under the leadership’s guidance, the UAE continues to back joint Gulf initiatives that aim to transform regional transport and trade. The railway project is expected to streamline intra-GCC commerce, improve freight and passenger mobility, and open up new economic opportunities.
Discussions at the meeting included a general agreement to link GCC countries via the railway, financial audits, and updates on technical studies. Plans to engage with future transport exhibitions and conferences were also discussed, showcasing the region’s drive to adopt forward-thinking infrastructure solutions.
The UAE’s active participation underscores its role as a key contributor to shared Gulf development goals, paving the way for a connected and economically vibrant future.
