ABU DHABI: The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) has officially extended the traditional falconry season for 2025–2026, under the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The decision aligns with EAD’s mission to regulate and preserve falconry, a key component of UAE’s heritage, and reflects a broader commitment to GCC falconry tradition.

According to Resolution No. (7) of 2025, falconry season will run from 20 October 2025 to 5 February 2026. Falconry during this time is permitted only for UAE nationals aged 18 or above, holding a valid falconry licence issued via the TAMM platform. The extension provides falconers more time to engage in the sport, while ensuring compliance with legal and environmental controls.

Falconers must practice only in open areas of Abu Dhabi, maintaining a minimum distance of two kilometres from roads, private property, forests, protected reserves, and military or petroleum zones. The activity is strictly allowed between sunrise and sunset, and only during the defined season.

Licences are granted under Local Resolution No. (5) of 2021, and applicants must register their falcons with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE). The application, done through TAMM using UAE Pass, includes a fee of AED127 and results in an instant digital licence upon meeting conditions.

The EAD reiterated its dedication to cultural preservation by collaborating with strategic entities like the Emirates Falconers’ Club to develop scientific and regulatory frameworks for falconry. These steps aim to maintain international best practices, encourage youth participation, and ensure that the GCC falconry tradition continues to thrive in sustainable ways.

This season’s extension reflects the UAE’s broader efforts to safeguard intangible heritage while supporting local communities and strengthening national identity.
