The UAE expressed solidarity with Namibia as wildfires sweep through Etosha National Park, reaffirming its commitment to global environmental cooperation.
ABU DHABI: The United Arab Emirates has voiced strong support for the Republic of Namibia as the southern African nation battles devastating wildfires in Etosha National Park. The fires have scorched vast areas of one of Africa’s largest and most vital wildlife reserves, threatening biodiversity and the local environment.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), the UAE extended its heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Namibia. The ministry expressed sorrow over the damage caused by the fires and reaffirmed the UAE’s solidarity with Namibia during this environmental crisis.
The UAE’s message underscores its ongoing commitment to global partnerships in environmental protection and disaster response. As a nation known for its active humanitarian diplomacy, the UAE has consistently supported countries affected by natural disasters, including wildfires, floods, and earthquakes.
This gesture of solidarity follows recent efforts by Namibia to contain the Etosha wildfire, which has already destroyed over 850,000 hectares of parkland and caused wildlife losses. The UAE’s recognition of Namibia’s struggle highlights growing international concern for preserving ecological heritage sites amid increasing climate-related risks.
Etosha National Park, home to over 100 species of mammals and globally endangered species like the black rhino, is a crucial ecological asset for southern Africa and a key part of the continent’s conservation efforts.
The UAE’s statement is expected to further foster diplomatic and environmental collaboration between the two nations.
