ABU DHABI: The UAE Media Council has issued a strong advisory regarding the improper use of artificial intelligence in the media landscape, warning that the unauthorised depiction of national symbols or public figures through AI or other technologies is a clear violation of media content standards.
In its official statement, the Council emphasised that any use of AI-generated imagery or content involving UAE national emblems, leaders, or public personalities without prior official approval is prohibited and considered a media offence. Such actions are subject to the provisions outlined in the Media Violations Regulation, which include both financial fines and administrative penalties.
The advisory also addressed the broader misuse of AI technology. It warned against employing artificial intelligence to spread false information, incite hatred, defame individuals, or disrespect societal values and cultural principles. The Council stressed that these practices could significantly impact social harmony and national identity, and will be met with strict legal consequences.
The UAE Media Council urged all social media users, digital content creators, and media institutions to act responsibly when creating and sharing content. It reiterated the need for full compliance with UAE laws and approved media standards, underscoring the importance of ethical and professional conduct in all public communications.
