Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) partners with Terra Tech to roll out battery-swapping stations across the city, promoting zero-emission electric bikes in the delivery sector.
DUBAI: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has announced a strategic partnership with MENA-based tech start-up Terra Tech Ltd to introduce battery-swapping stations across key delivery hubs in the emirate. This first-of-its-kind initiative in the region aims to support electric bike adoption in the delivery sector, helping businesses switch to sustainable mobility solutions.
Terra Tech Ltd, known for its battery-swapping innovations in the micro-mobility space, will collaborate with the RTA to develop a comprehensive infrastructure plan. Stations will be installed at 36 operationally strategic locations across Dubai, offering a quick and accessible battery exchange option for electric delivery bikes.
Ahmed Mahboob, CEO of RTA’s Licensing Agency, stated that the project supports the 2030 Commercial and Logistics Land Transport Strategy, which targets a 30 percent reduction in carbon emissions. “We are developing an operational model tailored for delivery companies that ensures a transition to greener mobility while reducing ownership costs,” he said.
The battery-swapping model addresses challenges faced by delivery operators such as charging downtime, range limitations, and high energy costs. The infrastructure will not only lower carbon emissions but also help reduce noise pollution and improve service standards across the board.
“This collaboration supports the development of alternative sustainable energy solutions and enhances Dubai’s readiness to adopt future technologies,” added Mahboob, inviting companies to be part of the transformation.
Husam Al Zammar, CEO of Terra, welcomed the collaboration. “We are proud to work with RTA to enhance Dubai’s electric delivery bike ecosystem and contribute to a greener economy,” he said.
This move signals Dubai’s increasing investment in smart mobility solutions and its drive towards becoming a regional leader in sustainable urban logistics.
