DUBAI: The Museum of the Future, in partnership with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), has unveiled the prototype of the Joby S4 aerial taxi, marking a major step in Dubai’s self-driving transport vision.

On display at the museum’s Tomorrow, Today floor, this electric air taxi aligns with Dubai’s Self-Driving Strategy, which aims for 25% autonomous trips by 2030. The Joby S4, an eco-friendly, zero-emission vehicle, features six rotors, four battery packs, and a 322 km/h top speed, making urban travel faster and greener.

RTA’s Khaled Al Awadhi confirmed Dubai will be the first city to launch aerial taxis, with operations set for early 2026. The electric taxi ensures safety and comfort, offering quick, quiet, and sustainable travel.

Initial routes will connect Dubai International Airport, Downtown Dubai, Dubai Marina, and Palm Jumeirah, cutting travel times drastically. A ride from the airport to Palm Jumeirah will take just 12 minutes instead of 45 minutes by car.

The aerial taxi service will integrate with Dubai’s transport network, supporting e-scooters, bicycles, and public transit to enhance citywide connectivity. The vertiport, capable of 42,000 landings annually, will accommodate 170,000 passengers, ensuring smooth operations.

Joby Aviation will manage flight operations, while Skyports Infrastructure will oversee vertiport construction and operation. The RTA will regulate service quality and integration into Dubai’s mobility ecosystem.

Joby’s Anthony Khoury called it an honour to showcase this electric air taxi, highlighting Dubai’s role in shaping the future of clean, efficient air travel.
