DUBAI: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is set to complete a vital traffic improvement project at the Dubai Healthcare City exit leading to Sheikh Zayed Road by 20 July 2025. The upgrade is designed to ease congestion and improve driving efficiency in one of Dubai’s busiest medical and urban zones.
The project, which includes converting a stop-controlled exit on Street 13 into a free-flow movement, introduces a new acceleration lane connecting to the intersection of Oud Metha and Sheikh Rashid Roads. Additionally, the service road exit will be widened from one lane to two over a 500-metre stretch, significantly improving access for vehicles arriving from Al Riyadh Street.
These enhancements are expected to double traffic capacity at the exit to 3,000 vehicles per hour and reduce waiting times by up to 50%, ensuring smoother traffic movement, especially during peak hours.
RTA officials highlighted that this development is part of the Authority’s ongoing efforts to boost road network efficiency, safety, and capacity under Dubai’s smart and sustainable mobility vision. The upgrade is particularly significant given the critical nature of Dubai Healthcare City, which is home to hospitals, clinics, educational institutions, and residential communities.
Previously, RTA executed similar improvements in the same area, including upgrades to entries and exits between Umm Hurair and Oud Metha. Deceleration and acceleration lanes were added to streamline traffic in both directions, while the service road exit onto Umm Hurair Road was expanded to three lanes, reducing congestion by over 40% during busy periods.
