Dubai’s RTA has built 103 km of internal roads in eight residential and industrial areas, improving traffic flow and connectivity.
DUBAI: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully constructed and developed over 103 kilometres of internal roads across eight residential and industrial zones in Dubai, in a major push to enhance urban infrastructure, road capacity, and community accessibility.
Completed works include six kilometres of new roads in Al Khawaneej 2 (Tolerance District) and 27 kilometres in Jebel Ali Industrial Area 1. These projects added parking spaces, new roundabouts, signalised intersections, and lighting infrastructure to improve safety and traffic flow. The Jebel Ali area now accommodates up to 3,000 vehicles per hour, while roadside enhancements ensure safer and more efficient transport for heavy vehicles.
Currently, the RTA is progressing with road development in six other communities: Al Awir 1, Nad Al Sheba 1, 3 and 4, Al Warqa’a, and Wadi Al Amardi. The Al Awir project features 16.5 km of internal roads and a new 7.5 km road linking to Emirates Road, with a 4 km extension aiming to enhance capacity by 16%. Completion is expected by Q2 2026.
In Nad Al Sheba, 32 km of roads, cycling paths, and pavements are being built, with phased completions through 2027. Al Warqa’a’s upgrade includes new access from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and signalised intersections to cut travel time by 80%. In Wadi Al Amardi, 15 km of internal roads, parking for 1,000 vehicles, and lighting poles will support 30,000+ residents.
RTA Chairman Mattar Al Tayer emphasised that these projects align with Dubai’s vision to improve residents’ wellbeing, enhance traffic safety, and meet future urban growth demands.
