Sheikh Mohammed unveils the world’s first endowment-funded smart district in Dubai — designed to power global education and healthcare forever.
DUBAI: In a bold move set to redefine modern philanthropy, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has launched the Mohammed bin Rashid Endowment District, a groundbreaking $1.28 billion (AED 4.7 billion) urban project. But this isn’t just another luxury real estate development — it’s built to fund global humanitarian work permanently.
Spanning 2 million sq ft, the futuristic district merges housing, hospitals, and schools into a single ecosystem — with profits flowing directly into education and healthcare programs worldwide via the Mohammed bin Rashid Global Initiatives (MBRGI).
This visionary project includes 25 buildings, 2,000+ residential units, a 250-bed hospital, two schools, and a medical college, hosting 12,000 people daily. The hospital alone will treat 90,000+ patients a year, making it a regional hub for medical excellence.
“This is endowment 2.0,” Sheikh Mohammed said. “It multiplies the value of giving and leaves a permanent mark on humanity.”
With the private sector backing the effort — including Azizi Developments contributing a record AED 3 billion ($816.8M) — the project is more than just a charity. It’s Dubai’s new blueprint for sustainable giving.
