DUBAI: His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence, has officially launched Dubai Mallathon, a unique fitness initiative that transforms shopping malls into community-driven wellness hubs. Set to run throughout August, the initiative invites residents and visitors to engage in daily walking and fitness routines inside seven of Dubai’s premier malls.
Running from August 1 to 31, the programme is designed to counter the challenges of outdoor activity during the summer heat. From 7:00 am to 10:00 am daily, dedicated walking and running tracks will be activated in Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, Dubai Hills Mall, City Centre Deira, City Centre Mirdif, Dubai Marina Mall, and Springs Souk. The public can register for free at www.dubaimallathon.ae.
Dubai Mallathon is a key pillar of the Dubai Social Agenda 33 and Quality of Life Strategy 33, and aligns with the Year of Community vision, highlighting Dubai’s ongoing commitment to enhance public wellbeing through lifestyle innovation and inclusivity.
Sheikh Hamdan emphasised that the initiative aims to set global benchmarks in public health by making fitness a routine aspect of everyday life. “With the Dubai Mallathon, we’re turning familiar spaces into places that inspire movement, connection, and better habits,” he said. “Every step you take moves us closer to a healthier Dubai. This is a shared journey.”
The initiative is sponsored by the Ministry of Defence and implemented in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council. It is open to all age groups, including children, youth, seniors, residents, and mall staff. It includes fitness-tracking systems, guided stretching sessions, children’s play zones, and wellness kiosks offering information on sustainable health practices.
The project also makes strategic use of mall spaces by offering a climate-controlled alternative for fitness in summer, ensuring safe, accessible, and enjoyable environments for participants. Restaurants and retailers within the participating malls will offer exclusive promotions in support of health-conscious choices and lifestyle improvements.
Additionally, the initiative features a ‘Walk for Better Health’ programme in partnership with the Community Development Authority, furthering the government’s efforts to embed health and wellness into community life.
Participation in Dubai Mallathon is free of charge and can be completed by registering through the official website: www.dubaimallathon.ae. Upon registration, participants will receive a digital card confirming their enrollment in the initiative.
