DUBAI: Dubai Police is preparing to host the fourth edition of INTERPOL’s Young Global Police Leaders Programme (YGPLP) from August 26 to 29. This year’s theme, “Policing in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,” will focus on how AI is transforming security and policing.

The programme will gather young police leaders from 35 countries, alongside international speakers and trainers. It aims to explore AI’s impact on global industries and security, and to enhance international cooperation among participating nations.

Lieutenant General Abdulla Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, highlighted Dubai Police’s commitment to future-oriented policing. He noted that the initiative aligns with a strategy to integrate AI advancements into police operations to improve crime fighting and community safety.

Al Marri emphasized that the YGPLP 2024 will provide a global platform for young leaders to address current and future challenges, enhance their skills, and stay updated with the latest technologies in policing.

Expert Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, stressed the importance of adapting to evolving crimes, such as cybercrime and AI-related offences. He believes empowering young leaders is crucial for effectively tackling these challenges.

Brigadier Harib Al Shamsi, Director of the General Department of Criminal Investigation, noted the programme’s role in enhancing international police cooperation and developing future leaders. The four-day event, supported by INTERPOL and Dubai Police, will include lectures, workshops, and brainstorming sessions on AI applications and challenges in policing.

The programme will also feature educational visits, sports, and networking opportunities. Building on past successes, this year’s event follows Dubai’s previous hosting of the YGPLP, reflecting its growing significance in global policing.
