DUBAI: Got unpaid traffic fines in Dubai? You’ll need to clear them before renewing or applying for your residency visa, thanks to a new system being tested by the city’s immigration and transport authorities.
The rule isn’t fully active everywhere just yet, but it’s already in place at several visa centres—except the one at Dubai Airport. The idea isn’t to punish people, say officials, but to get everyone to play by the rules.
If you’ve got a big amount to pay, don’t stress. Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has made it easier by letting you pay in instalments using Tabby. You can split your payments over time through RTA’s website, apps, or even kiosks. The new system lets you handle over 170 different services, including fine payments and licence renewals, all from your phone or computer.
The good news? You won’t be turned away or blocked without support. If you walk into a GDRFA centre with fines pending, staff will help guide you through the payment options.
This isn’t a brand-new idea—something similar was floated years ago. But now, with digital platforms and flexible payments in place, it’s a lot easier to manage. More centres are expected to join the rollout soon, so make sure to keep an eye on any pending fines to avoid hold-ups with your visa.
