DUBAI: Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation PJSC, known as Empower, has made a significant achievement by setting a Guinness World Record for the highest capacity district cooling plant (DCS) with its Business Bay District Cooling project in Dubai. During the WETEX 2024 exhibition, Empower’s CEO, H.E. Ahmad Bin Shafar, proudly accepted the Guinness World Records certificate from an official representative, surrounded by industry leaders and notable figures.

Bin Shafar expressed his excitement, stating, “We are thrilled to be recognized in the Guinness World Records for ‘The Highest Cooling Capacity for a District Cooling System.’ With an impressive total connected capacity of 241,272 Refrigeration Tons (RT), this accomplishment is a significant milestone for Empower on a global scale. It showcases our commitment to creating high-value assets that provide environmentally friendly cooling services to Dubai’s residents while ensuring sustainable returns for our company and stakeholders.”
He also highlighted that this record reinforces Dubai’s position as a leader in environmental sustainability, recognizing the city’s innovative approach to providing top-notch district cooling solutions.

Empower’s Business Bay district cooling project is among the largest of its kind globally, with a total capacity of 451,540 RT. The project comprises nine district cooling plants, four of which are operational, serving 188 multi-use buildings and skyscrapers in Business Bay, along Sheikh Zayed Road, and near the Dubai Water Canal. This is all facilitated by a single distribution pipeline network spanning 52.4 kilometers. Additionally, the project incorporates advanced Thermal Energy Storage (TES) technologies and utilizes treated sewage effluent (TSE) in its operations, alongside other innovative technologies.
