DUBAI: His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, met with Shou Zi Chew, CEO of TikTok, today. This meeting highlighted Dubai’s ambition to collaborate with major global media and tech players like TikTok to strengthen its media sector.
Sheikh Hamdan expressed Dubai’s commitment to partnering with new media technology leaders to foster local talent, advance digital expertise, and solidify Dubai as a leading media hub. He emphasised that Dubai aims to create an environment that nurtures creativity and innovation in media content, aligning with global standards. The goal is to ensure the UAE’s media sector keeps up with global trends while supporting local talent.
As part of this commitment, Dubai Press Club will host a roundtable discussion tomorrow, led by TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew. Titled Shaping the Future of Content Creation and Empowering Creativity, the session will bring together top content creators from across the region to discuss new media trends and opportunities for innovation.
Since TikTok set up its regional base in Dubai in 2018, the platform has seen substantial growth across the MENA region, particularly among younger users. TikTok’s success aligns with Dubai’s vision of becoming a digital innovation hub for the region.

The meeting was also attended by several key figures, including H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Media Council; Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence; Helal Saeed Al Marri, Director General of Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism; Mona Ghanem Al Marri, Vice Chairperson of the Dubai Media Council; and senior representatives from TikTok’s policy team.
