DUBAI: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled a key milestone in the Hessa Street project with the opening of a 1,000-metre, two-lane bridge linking Hessa Street to Al Khail Road. This upgrade reduces travel time between the two roads from 15 minutes to just 3 minutes, enhancing connectivity to Dubai’s city centre and Dubai International Airport.

The AED 689 million Hessa Street project spans 4.5 km from Sheikh Zayed Road to Al Khail Road, upgrading four major intersections. Currently, 54% of the project is complete, with full operations expected by late 2025.

RTA Chairman Mattar Al Tayer stated, “This project is vital to meet Dubai’s urban growth demands. By 2030, it will serve over 640,000 residents.” The upgrades will double Hessa Street’s capacity from 8,000 vehicles per hour to 16,000. Key intersections, including Sheikh Zayed Road, First Al Khail Road, Al Asayel Street, and Al Khail Road, are being enhanced with new ramps and widened bridges to improve traffic flow.

The project also features 13.5 km of cycling and e-scooter tracks connecting Al Sufouh to Dubai Hills. Two architecturally distinct bridges, spanning Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road, cater to cyclists and pedestrians, ensuring safe and efficient travel.

Cycling tracks enhance first and last-mile connectivity, linking Al Barsha, Barsha Heights, and Dubai Internet City Metro Station. These tracks accommodate up to 5,200 users per hour, promoting sustainable mobility.

Designed to serve key areas such as Al Sufouh, Al Barsha, and Jumeirah Village Circle, the project strengthens Dubai’s infrastructure, supports urban growth, and improves traffic efficiency, reinforcing Dubai’s position as a leader in smart and sustainable urban planning.
