The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) proudly announced that its state-of-the-art marine research vessel, Jaywun, has won the prestigious Work Boat World Award for Best Large Research Vessel for 2023. This marks the first time a Middle Eastern vessel has achieved such recognition from Baird Maritime, a leading maritime publishing authority.
The Work Boat World Best Vessel awards honour exceptional maritime achievements, evaluating entries on quality, innovation, reliability, utility, economy, sustainability, and style. Following rigorous assessments in 2023, Jaywun stood out globally for its advanced design, functionality, and unmatched technological capabilities.
Ahmed Al Hashmi, EAD’s Executive Director of the Terrestrial and Marine Biodiversity Sector, lauded the accomplishment: “Being recognised by Baird Maritime in Australia is a testament to Abu Dhabi’s global impact in marine research. Jaywun’s victory underscores its technological edge, innovative features, and leadership in marine exploration.” He emphasised the agency’s vision to cement its leadership in oceanography, stating, “This accolade propels us towards our goal of being a global authority in marine research.”
Neil Baird, Founder of Baird Maritime, praised Jaywun for its versatility and innovative design. He highlighted the vessel’s hydrodynamic efficiency, economy, and ability to operate in diverse conditions, from the Arabian Gulf’s hot, shallow waters to the deeper Gulf of Oman. “Jaywun is impeccably built for long-term service, equipped for comprehensive oceanographic research, and capable of withstanding harsh environments,” Baird noted.
