SHARJAH: In a vibrant showcase of cultural heritage and sporting spirit, more than 1,000 young camels competed in the prestigious Fatameen race held at the Al Dhaid Camel Race Track on Saturday, 19 July 2025. Organised under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the event was led by the Sharjah Camel Racing Club.
Locally bred camels, raised by members of UAE tribes, took part in a series of 18 competitive heats. The race covered a distance of 1,500 metres and was divided into several categories, including eight heats for female participants from Al Dhaid, six in the open class, and four in the Saoub category.
The event drew large crowds and reaffirmed the enduring popularity of camel racing as a heritage sport in the emirate. It also underscored Sharjah’s commitment to preserving Emirati traditions through regular, well-organised sports festivals.
Officials noted the strong participation as a positive sign for the future of traditional sports in the region. With enthusiastic community involvement and high-level support, events like these continue to bridge the past and present in UAE sporting culture.
