SHARJAH: Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has launched the first phase of electric bus operations as part of its push towards environmentally friendly public transport. The new buses are part of SRTA’s effort to support the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 initiative, with 10 electric buses now running on three routes: to Dubai, Ajman, and Al Hamriyah. These destinations were chosen based on studies showing high passenger demand.

The aim is to promote green transportation and reduce carbon emissions in line with the UAE’s sustainability plans. SRTA’s strategy includes using eco-friendly buses and creating a safe, sustainable transport environment.
After testing two buses for efficiency in UAE’s climate, SRTA selected the King Long model, which is 9 meters long and holds 41 passengers. These buses meet international safety standards and have received the European safety certificate. The buses are equipped with air conditioning and a battery cooling system to suit the UAE’s climate.
