Sharjah Executive Council has revised rules, now allowing disposal of impounded vehicles after three months from the date of seizure.
SHARJAH: The Sharjah Executive Council (SEC) has officially approved an amendment to the 2016 decision concerning the disposal of impounded vehicles in the Emirate. During its recent meeting held at the Sharjah Ruler’s Office, the council agreed that vehicles impounded for three months or longer can now be disposed of without further delay.
Chaired by His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and Chairman of the SEC, the session included key Emirate figures such as Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem Al Qasimi and Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, both Deputy Rulers and Vice Chairmen of the Council.
The newly amended provision applies to all impounded vehicles whose owners or lienholders have not taken action for at least three months from the date of their seizure. Vehicles seized for reasons relating to traffic violations or criminal incidents will be subject to auction by the Committee for the Disposal of Impounded Vehicles after the closure of the associated case files or the issuance of a judicial ruling. This process will be conducted in coordination with the Public Prosecution.
The decision is expected to streamline the management of long-held impounded vehicles and reduce congestion in impound lots. It also reinforces Sharjah’s broader strategy to improve government service efficiency and urban order.
In the same meeting, the SEC also reviewed the Sharjah Economic Development Department’s response to recommendations made by the Sharjah Consultative Council, confirming steps are underway to implement measures that will further enhance the Emirate’s economic growth.
